Welcoming Jennae Bulat to IDP’s Advisory Board

IDP is thrilled to welcome Dr. Jennae Bulat to IDP’s Advisory Board.  Jennae has been a long-time partner of IDP’s and is a life-long advocate of disability rights and inclusion. Until recently, Jennae was the Senior Director of Teaching and Learning at Research Triangle Institute (RTI) International where she led a global team of curriculum design and teacher professional development experts spanning early childhood, K-12, and higher education

Building on her lived experience as a sibling of a sister with a disability, she has consistently looked for ways to support the learning of vulnerable and historically marginalized children both in the United States and internationally, including children with disabilities or otherwise struggling to master the official curriculum, from early childhood through secondary school. This work has taken various forms: including designing and implementing technology-based programs for struggling readers, overseeing a global portfolio of disabilities inclusive education programming, and directing the technical strategy for and implementation of international education programming in resource-limited contexts from early childhood through higher education. She has led or supported education projects in over 20 countries, co-led country-wide evaluations of education for students with disabilities, supported the design and implementation of national-scale evaluations of student capacity in braille and sign language, and enabled the international collaboration and scaling of disabilities programming.

Jennae has a PhD in Human Development and Education focused specifically on atypical reading development and the use of assistive and enabling technologies to help children with learning differences learn to read and have also published a series of working papers on disabilities inclusive education in low- and middle-income countries. Publications include USAID’s 2015 Guide for Strengthening Gender Equity and Inclusiveness in Teaching and Learning Materials, and multiple articles and book chapters on topics such as universal design for learning (UDL) and effective teaching practices.

IDP is excited to have Jennae’s commitment, experience and enthusiasm for disability-inclusive development help guide the organization.
