Research on Social Inclusion and Protection of Children with Disabilities in Sierra Leone

The goal of our work in Sierra Leone is to conduct a conduct a multi-sectoral, mixed-methods research study that will provide a comprehensive account of the inclusion of children with disabilities in the country, including from the perspective of the children themselves. In particular, the purpose of this research is to generate the evidence needed to make future programming decisions that benefit the genuine needs and priorities of children with disabilities in Sierra Leone. This study examines the following thematic sectors: social protection, child protection, education, health and nutrition, and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH).

Project Highlights

  • Comprehensive desk review of existing publications, reports, government strategies, and policy documents, and primary/secondary data reports regarding the situation of disability in Sierra Leone.
  • Legal and Policy Review summarizing key documents relevant to the Sierra Leone context and their alignment with international conventions.
  • Field-level data collection using surveys, key informant interviews, and focus group discussions among diverse stakeholder groups.
